Tanzanite

Tanzanite

Tanzanite is one of the world’s rarest crystals and therefore extremely prized. The bluer the stone, the more valuable it is. The lighter and more violent the colour, the lower the quality. The highest-quality stones are usually used for gold jewellery and may cost as much as diamonds, but since reserves are so limited, the price of lower quality stones used in silver jewellery grows constantly.

Spiritual power
Tanzanite is a stone with a high spirituality factor - it makes you grow mentally, opens the gateway to an invisible world and summons forth epiphanies. Perhaps its greatest asset is that it helps you see life the way it really is, to rid yourself of the filters society has developed, misconceptions and outdated rules.

It frees you of worries and worrying and instils a joyful energy. It inspires you to be more empathetic and loving, making you live and speak from the heart as well. It is capable of transporting you to the centre and bringing balance and helps overcome fear and crisis. If you are going through a period where one failure follows on another’s heels, and you feel it can’t get worse, this lovely blue crystal lets you look toward the future and get back on track.
Healing properties
Tanzanite strengthens the immune system, rids the body of toxins and improves vitality. It lets cells, especially in the hair and skin, regenerate. It also relieves stress, nervous tension and migraines.
Did you know
  • Tanzanite is mined only in northern Tanzania at the foot of Kilimanjaro. Scientists believe reserves may be exhausted in 20-30 years, hence the rising prices. As such, it is rarer than diamond.
  • Discovered only in 1967. At first called blue zoisite, it was renamed because it was thought it sounded too much like “suicide” and would dampen sales.
  • Freshly heat-treated tanzanite is bluish red, and polishing brings out intermediate colour tones as well. Heat-treating of tanzanite is so common that untreated crystals are practically not available.
