1. MOONSTONE – Your Source of Power

moonstone

As ancient as the Moon itself, moonstone mesmerises with its otherworldly beauty and capturing glimmer. It comes in a variety of shapes, colours and grades of clarity but what makes this stone truly captivating is its adularescence effect. This is a sort of colour play that seemingly lights up the surface of the stone, making it twinkle with light-blue and whitish colours.

In addition to its bright character and mysterious bluish glow, the moonstone has been considered the symbol of feminine allure and power since ancient times. It is a gem for intuition, balance, helping you feel empowered when making decisions.

Moonstone is one of the three birthstones for June. Of zodiac signs Gemini and Cancer tend to be drawn to this stone the most but all signs can feel the power of moonstone energy and benefit from it.

Their opalescent gleam and the charming notion that moonstones have empowering, balancing properties have made these gems the darlings of jewellers and consumers alike. Moonstone jewelry tends to have a subtle yet striking appearance and can be combined with most outfits to suit any occasion.

2. LABRADORITE – Strengthen Your Intuition

Labradorite is a close relative of the moonstone, belonging also to the family of feldspar minerals. When moonstone produces its adularescence effect, the labradorite has its own iridescent optical effect called labradorescence. When light is reflected from within the stone, this effect produces lustrous shades of blue, red, yellow, orange, and green. Particularly expensive labradorites have lilac or even all rainbow colours woven into them.

The perceived mystical properties of labradorite are equally as interesting as its appearance. This gemstone was often used in magic and rituals as it was believed to create a shield for auras and protect against negativity. Excellent for enhancing intuition, it is a perfect stone for anyone going through change and looking for their path. The crystal will allow you to listen to and trust your inner voice, it will strengthen your will and help you be more open to new opportunities.

Although labradorite is not considered to be a traditional birthstone, it is mostly associated with Libra and Leo zodiac signs. The gemstone can, however, be beautifully worn by anyone.

Labradorite with its mesmerising iridescence and play of colours is a popular gemstone in jewellery-making. It is featured in necklaces, bracelets and rings, revealing an array of tones whenever it catches the light. Due to its thrilling glimmer, labradorite jewelry looks particularly striking combined with darker clothes as these allow for the mysterious glow to shine its brightest.

3. ROSE QUARTZ – Your Endless Love

Luxurious, feminine, and associated with love, the popularity of rose quartz in the gemstone world is here to stay. The colour of this stone may vary from pale pink to dark dusky pink and there is usually a web of fibre inclusions inside that causes a gorgeous asterism effect and adds visual interest to the stone.

Rose quartz is reputed to help the wearer attract love, but the stone will also and, perhaps more importantly, never allow you to forget to love yourself no matter what situation you are in. Self-acceptance and the ability to accept love are beautiful metaphysical properties of rose quartz. But you do not need to believe in the power of crystals to enjoy wearing rose quartz jewellery and allow its presence to remind you to always be kind to yourself.

Rose quartz is the secondary birthstone for January besides the garnet. Its energy is related to Taurus and Libra zodiac signs.

This gemstone is widely used to create well-crafted and delicate pendants, rings, earrings and bracelets. Thanks to its subtle appearance, rose quartz jewelry is a stunning addition to any white or light-coloured outfits. Its attractive colour also blends perfectly with the shades of evening and can make your night full of compliments.

4. ROCK CRYSTAL – Positive Vibes Only

Rock crystal, also known as mountain crystal or clear quartz, is one of the most common but at the same time also one of the most popular semi-precious stones. It is blindingly simple, lustrous, and translucently clear – like a frozen mountain lake. The Greeks even believed quartz crystals to be deeply frozen pieces of ice that couldn’t melt again.

In the realm of spirituality, rock crystals are believed to have the power to eliminate inner chaos. The gemstone filters out distractions, supports concentration, and brings clarity. It cleanses the soul of the energies dragging you down and stimulates positive vibes. For all its beneficial properties it is often considered the most powerful healing crystal on this planet, lovingly re-connecting you with your inner self.

Associated with new beginnings, rock crystal is the birthstone of April and the zodiac sign of Aries. It is also a good match for Leos but generally works for anyone needing to get rid of old patterns and wishing to bring positivity into their life.

For jewellery designs, rock crystal can be cut to offer sparkling, icy beauty, similar to that of a diamond. Items with rock crystals are a powerful companion for any person and go with everything – a smaller piece will add a touch of elegance to your daily outfits while more elaborate jewellery can impressively adorn your evening gowns.

5. ONYX – You Are Protected

Onyx’s distinctive appearance sets it apart from all other gemstones. It is black as a night with a waxy to dull lustre and mostly opaque. It also looks much more expensive than it actually is.

Black onyx is equally powerful as it is elegant. The lush looking gemstone is believed to bring inner strength and confidence to the wearer, or more accurately, to help the wearer find her inner strength. It is also a master of protection, shielding you against all harm. Cleopatra herself is believed to have worn black onyx for its protective features.

If you are a Leo, Onyx is a stone for you, inviting you to become the master of your own destiny. It is the birthstone for the month of December.

A favourite among modern gemstone and jewellery lovers, black onyx with its deep tones is equally perfect for necklaces, bracelets, and rings. The pieces are chic and often impressive but will nevertheless go with any outfit thanks to their neutral colour. The mysterious charm of onyx will capture all eyes and will add to the “wow” factor of your appearance.

Primary birthstone for the month of January, garnet is associated with the astrological signs of Aquarius and Capricorn. The gemstone should, however, feature in every woman’s wardrobe for its versatility and charm.

One of fashion’s most sought-after gemstones, garnet jewelry can be worn daily in the form of earrings, rings, and necklaces. It is a perfect accent to black and white outfits, adding a tasteful splash to them. Olive and forest green ensembles also look magnificent with garnet jewelry.

It glows like a miniature sunset and its warm and positive appearance makes any jewel look vibrant and charming. Even the smallest of stones brings a smile to your face and sets the tone for a happy day.

Embodying the power of the sun, citrine is a mighty gemstone to possess. It is believed to increase the flow of money-based energy and to provide its wearer with abundance, clarity of thought, and success in business. Which is why it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that it used to be the lucky charm for pirates heading off on a treasure hunt. Citrine also produces positive energy that transforms negativity into joy and inner-peace.

Citrine is the traditional birthstone for November and a zodiac stone for Aries, Gemini, Leo, and Libra.

Citrine crystals vary in size and can be rather large which makes them ideal for statement pieces. With its vibrant, golden hue, citrine jewelry is an indispensable addition to your summer wardrobe matching perfectly with the more colourful, joyous clothes. It is a delightful accent to all hues of green but will also add a touch of radiance to a formal black dress.

8. AMETHYST – Keep Calm and Breathe

amethyst

Amethyst is the best known and most loved purple gemstone in the world. Although generally more of a deeper purple, the stone can also come in hues so light that it is barely perceptible or so dark that it is almost opaque. But whatever its exact tone, the gorgeous amethyst can be set in almost any metal to complement any look.

The purple hues of amethyst have long been a symbol of peace, calming energy, trust, and grace. Known as a natural tranquilliser, this gemstone can dispel rage, calm anxiety, and help to manage fears. Amethyst has a high spiritual vibration that can spark-up intuition and help the inner wisdom flow.

Birthstone for February and zodiac stone for Aquarians, amethyst is also a dreamy match for the Pisces.

Amethyst is very durable, and this makes it ideal for all types of jewellery. It also looks stunning in any jewellery setting from bracelets to rings, earrings, and necklaces.

Wearing an amethyst bracelet or necklace will dress up any outfit and the pieces are equally suited to be worn with jeans and evening gowns.

9. LARIMAR – Express Yourself

Larimar, also known as the dolphin stone, is one of the rarest and most beautiful gemstones in the world. Its amazing blue colour mirrors the azure and white shades of the Caribbean sea, reminding us of the free, relaxed and happy flow of the water. The gemstone is mostly opaque, exhibiting a silky-smooth lustre.

In terms of metaphysical properties, Larimar is believed to excel at increasing communication skills. Freeing you from fears and providing the courage to speak from the heart, it helps you to express yourself in the most articulate way possible. Larimar is also known as a “worry stone” – simply touching its soft, silky texture can make you feel relaxed and put your worries aside.

Larimar is neither a traditional birthstone nor a stone of the zodiac. It is most often associated with the beginning of spring (March, April) but like with all gemstones, you don’t have to be born within a certain month to wear it!

The beauty of larimar jewelry is universal – the stone looks equally stunning in earrings, pendants, and bracelets. The pieces are perfectly suited to the flowing fabrics and broad-brimmed hats of summer styles. At the same time, larimar jewelry also pairs well with the typical office colours – navy blue, black, gray and white.

10. PEARL – Unleash Your Inner Goddess

pearl

Flawless, shiny and smooth, pearls are incredibly unique as gemstones and their beauty is timeless. They are a source of pure fascination as they are the only gem created over time by a living creature, an oyster.

The symbolic meaning of a pearl is centred around beauty, purity, and femininity. It is astrologically linked to planet Venus and its Goddess counterpart, who is believed to have emerged from the sea. Exactly like the pearl itself. Wearing pearls conveys a strong message that you are at peace with yourself and accept yourself just the way you are.

Pearl is one of the birthstones for June and in terms of zodiac signs it is the ideal companion for a Cancer.

If you are looking to put together a chic, elegant outfit, look no further than pearls. Pearls are remarkably versatile when it comes to jewelry design, serving as a subtle accent during daytime and stealing the show at night.

Precious vs Semi-Precious Gemstones – Which Ones to Choose?

You probably noticed that our selection does not include any of the traditional precious stones. Well, that is intentional.

When talking about gems, we are mostly reminded of diamonds and other precious stones, but there’s also an entire kingdom of semi-precious stones that are widely used to make equally eye-catching jewellery.

According to the traditional classification, only four precious stones prevail: diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. These gems are rare, stunningly beautiful, clear, and sparkling beyond comparison. All other gemstones are considered semi-precious.

This classification, however, should be taken with a grain of salt, since there were significant value and rarity differences between the four precious stones and the rest when it came about. These days semi-precious stones can be worth considerably more than precious ones and there is not much difference between the two.

As an example, less clear rubies and sapphires can be classed as semi-precious and may come without a considerable price tag while a highly clear and exquisite tourmaline is regarded as a precious stone and may garner a much higher price. Additionally, some semi-precious gemstones can be very hard to find and mine and are consequently produced in lower quantities than the precious stones.

Next time you think about buying jewellery, look at the unusually colourful sheen of the labradorite, the golden sparkle of citrine, or the silky lustre of larimar. You know what they say about gemstones – apparently, they choose you as much as you choose them. Simply let yourself be drawn in and prepare to shine!
